“Gilded Cage” appears on the Blackmore’s Night Secret Voyage (2008) album.
This performance features an excellent, brief solo by violinist Elizabeth Carey.
“Gilded Cage,” featuring lyrics likely penned by Candace Night, could well be an ironic commentary on Ms. Night, herself still in the bloom of youth and bathed in shadowy fan affection:
I walk alone, the night wears a shadow
Painted in silver, painted in gold
The moment ends in silence, then the moment grows old
And when she smiles, a thousand dreams surround her
Dress them in secrets no one can hold . . .
